CHAGEE is returning to Singapore and doing so in style!
Our very first store at orchardgateway will feature a beautifully illustrated mural by local artist Tiffany Lovage. The mural draws inspiration from the Southern Silk Road, also known as the 'Ancient Tea Horse Road', where the journey of tea trade around the globe first began.
What is the 'Ancient Tea Horse Road'?
It was a network of trading routes linking the tea producing areas of Yunnan and Sichuan with the tea-consuming regions across China, in particular with Tibet. The Ancient Tea Horse Road originated from ‘tea-horse trade markets'(茶马互市). From the 6th century to the 20th century, people in Sichuan and Yunnan provinces traveled by foot and horseback with pack horses to exchange tea for horses with people in Tibet — hence the name.
A Unique Blend of Tradition and Innovation
In similar fashion to the Ancient Tea Horse Road, CHAGEE is expanding its presence worldwide, expanding beyond China and establishing itself in Singapore. The mural features a blend of the old and the new, symbolising the enduring tradition of tea and its role in fostering unity through oriental tea across different cultures.
One can also spot clever additions of iconic Singapore and international landmarks within the mural to depict the paving of a modern-day tea route with CHAGEE bringing many cultures and people together through tea, with Singapore as its launchpad.
About the Artist
Tiffany Lovage is an artist and illustrator born and raised in Singapore. A fine art graduate, Lovage enjoys working with her hands in which she believes to be a more intimate approach with her penchant for detailing. Her curiosity and love for botany, anatomy and the whimsical translate into a fusion of idylls she escapes into as she draws.
